Joint Meeting of ISO's Professional Committees

Erdal Bahçıvan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO), said, "We believe that the way to make the industry established is primarily through organized industrial zones."

In his speech at the Joint Meeting of ISO's Professional Committees held with the participation of İdris Güllüce, Minister of Environment and Urbanization, Bahçıvan stated that Istanbul, which constitutes the center of industrial production, is the "jugular vein" of the national economy. Stating that other provinces are 34 percent dependent on goods and services from Istanbul on average, Bahçıvan said that not giving industry the importance and place it deserves in an economy of Istanbul's scale would not have positive consequences for the future of the city and the country. Stating that "Spatial Strategy Planning Studies" were initiated in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and the Ministry of Development as of the end of 2012, Bahçıvan said that within this scope, spatial development scenarios will be created for the whole country and the region, including national development, balanced and sustainable growth, protection of cultural and environmental values, and disaster risks. Bahçıvan stated that relocating the industry without completing the infrastructure would cause similar problems for the same industrial facilities in different regions.

İdris Güllüce, Minister of Environment and Urbanization, attended the meeting, which was also attended by İlker Karataş, President of our Association, and Sami Kurt, Secretary General. In the meeting where the members of the professional committee brought their problems and suggestions, President Karataş had the opportunity to chat with other guests.
