60 billion dollars in the target of ready-to-wear garment manufacturers
There is China, the US and Mexico.
Hikmet Tanrıverdi, President of Istanbul Ready-to-Wear and Apparel Exporters' Association, stated that they revised their 2023 ready-to-wear export target of 52 billion dollars as 60 billion dollars and said, "More than 75 percent of our exports go to 27 EU countries. We want to increase our market share in these countries. In addition, we envisage to increase our market shares in the target countries such as Russia, Iran, Syria, Morocco, Jordan, China, Mexico and the USA."
Speaking at the opening of the first symposium of Timakademi 2023, organized by the Turkish Exporters Assembly, Hikmet Tanrıverdi said that the sector foresees to export 17 billion 350 million dollars in 2013.
Explaining that they plan to increase this figure to 20 billion dollars in 2014, 34 billion dollars in 2019 and 60 billion dollars in 2023, Tanrıverdi continued his words as follows: "In 2012, Turkey received 3.5 percent share from the world ready-to-wear and apparel exports. With this share, we are the 6th largest supplier country in the world. In line with the targets we have set, we aspire to increase our share to 4.2 percent. We envisage that 30 billion dollars of the 60 billion dollar target will be achieved by increasing value-added exports with fashion-brand and design-oriented products, and the other 30 billion dollars will be achieved by creating commercial added value with the role of 'organizer country'. We aim to increase the share of ready-to-wear and apparel exports in Turkey's overall exports to 12 percent in 2023."
Only 4 billion dollars out of 210 billion dollars
Lemi Tolunay, President of Istanbul Leather and Leather Products Exporters' Association (IDMIB), emphasized that they aim to get a share of 5.2 billion dollars within the export target of 500 billion dollars in 2023. Stating that in the 210 billion dollar world leather trade, Turkey can get as much share as a boutique country
Tolunay said, "We exported 1.6 billion dollars last year, but this number is only the official record. We can reach 4 billion dollars with leather products going abroad through passenger and cargo."
In his speech, Tolunay drew attention to the sector's inability to produce its own raw material, leather, and added that the leather industry should stand behind the animal breeding strategy.
